چکیده

Initial stages of salmonid fishes development are carried out in freshwater. At the first stage young fishes form structures and systems connected with ability to live in freshwater. At the second stage a complex of structural, physiological and biochemical changes directed on preparation of the organism for downstream migration and seawater entry takes place[1]. After completion of smoltification under certain conditions young fishes migrate downstream the river towards the sea. The cause of migratory state occurrence and conditions of young salmonid fishes migration downstream the river towards the sea remain obscure. The purpose of this work is to find out probable cause for occurrence of the migratory condition stimulating young fishes to roll downstream the river towards the sea based on comparative analysis of structural, physiological and biochemical processes occurring during smoltification. Solving this task has important theoretical value and plays an important role in optimization of measures to improve reproduction of valuable salmonid fishes in industrial conditions at fish farms. 2. Structural, physiological and biochemical transformations at the young salmonid fishes during smoltification

Partial Migration of Fishes as Exemplified by the Estuarine-Dependent White Perch La Lobina Blanca como Ejemplo de Migración Parcial en Peces

Fisheries • vol 34 no 3 • march 2009 • www.fisheries.org ABSTRACT: Partial migration defines the phenomenon of coexisting groups exhibiting migratory and resident behavior within the same population. In avian ecology, partial migration is a fundamental behavior that underlies the evolution of migration in general. Among fish taxa, the terminology and theory associated with partial migration has...

Migratory Behaviors in Masu Salmon (Oncorhynchus masou) and the Influence of Endocrinological Factors

© 2012 TERRAPUB, Tokyo. All rights reserved. doi:10.5047/absm.2012.00502.0029 and Kobayashi 2010). Most of the non-migratory forms will live continuously in their natal rivers throughout their lives (Fig. 1). Regardless of these life history types, most salmonids will spawn in freshwater environments, mainly in their natal rivers (Fig. 1) (Quinn 2005). From these phenomena, salmonids are consid...

Routine and active metabolic rates of migrating adult wild sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka Walbaum) in seawater and freshwater.

We present the first data on the differences in routine and active metabolic rates for sexually maturing migratory adult sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) that were intercepted in the ocean and then held in either seawater or freshwater. Routine and active oxygen uptake rates (MO2) were significantly higher (27%-72%) in seawater than in freshwater at all swimming speeds except those approachi...

Growth Performance, Feeding Behavior and Physiological Responses of Young Growing Holstein Male Calves to Dietary Chromium-Methionine (Cr-Met) Supplementation Related to Body Weight and Age

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary chromium-methionine (Cr-Met) supplementation on growth performance, feeding behavior and physiological responses of Holstein male calves during two different phases of body weight (BW). Twenty six (153.5±9.83 kg of BW) male calves were divided in two groups (n=13) and randomly assigned to treatments: 1) control and 2) Cr-Met (1.1 mg ...

The evolutionary ecology of alternative migratory tactics in salmonid fishes.

Extensive individual variation in spatial behaviour is a common feature among species that exhibit migratory life cycles. Nowhere is this more evident than in salmonid fishes; individual fish may complete their entire life cycle in freshwater streams, others may migrate variable distances at sea and yet others limit their migrations to larger rivers or lakes before returning to freshwater strea...
